Two Tips for More Followers and Visits. No, Really!

July 1, 2019

As a small business owner, you probably spend a lot of time DIY’ing your social media and even your website. And that’s ok. You’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do, especially if you don’t have room in your budget to have someone to do it for you. But don’t lose out on two small (and simple!) things you can quickly do to gain more followers or website visits.

Do you send out your own email marketing?

If you answered yes, check the last email you sent out (or even if you didn't answer yes, you may want to review... just in case). Does your email have icons included to your social media and/or website? I have a feeling most of you said yes. Because we all know we should be promoting our links whenever we can. But did you know some email marketing platforms, like Mailchimp, don’t automatically insert your specific links onto those icons? Go ahead and check again. Are those links sending your readers to your specific Instagram profile, Facebook page, or website? Or are those icons just sending readers off to the general Instagram or Facebook websites? By not specifically connecting your links for those social icons you are losing out on followers and website visits with every email campaign you send out.

Did you create your own website through a DIY platform like Squarespace, Wix, or WordPress?

If you said yes this time, that’s great! I’m always happy to see people excited to get their business promoted through the web. You may be able to guess what I’m about to ask you, but does your website include social media icons? And did you know some website builders will include those in the template but won’t automatically insert your specific links onto those icons? I’ll wait while you check where they go when tap. Did those linked icons take you to your specific Instagram profile, Facebook page, or YouTube channel? Or are those icons promoting Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube's own main websites instead? Every time someone visits your site, you have the potential to give them quick access to follow you on social media, and when you’re not specifically including your own links for those icons, you are missing out on those new followers.

So get your DIY hat on, and go get those followers!
